工友飽受不人道剝削：一更長達72小時、卻規定只得15分鐘食飯。工時愈長，薪金卻由17年前的$1,400蚊減到$1,200。碼頭內職安健欠奉，意外頻生，卻絕不會上報到勞工處。因為工時特長，不少工友面對婚姻問題；有工友坦言，每次放工只能回家不斷睡，根本不能與子女說多一句話。李嘉誠奪去的，不單是基本的工作尊嚴，還有工人生命的全部。數字應為約數，根據另一左翼21嘅文章:
自03年SARS以來，公司一直未有加薪。為了養家，不少碼頭工人（繫絪員和橋邊理貨員）都要連續工作最少24小時。在船期最旺的時候，更要連續工作72 小時不等，這十分影響工友的工作健康。然而，公司不單將工人的健康置之不理，更完全不給予超時及通宵工作的工人何津貼。現時揸紙和水爺工作一連三更，只得 $1115，比起1997年 $1480的工資水平更要低。換句話說，他們現時平均時薪大約只有 $ 50。十年無加過人工，工時卻不斷超標，真的是「養起李嘉誠，養不了家庭」。實際時薪為:
1997年 = 61.66
現時 = 46.45
因為時薪細，幾蚊足以影響超過 5%, 所以用實際時薪為準。

有任職吊臂操作員十多年的碼頭工人表示，九七年入職時的時薪五十三元，金融風暴後減至四十九元，前年薪金約六十元，今次罷工導致手停口停，但仍堅持爭取加薪。假設當時唔同工種嘅減幅一樣，1999年 (即金融風暴後) 繫絪員/橋邊理貨員嘅時薪係57蚊。
先唔講加薪合唔合理，剩係睇數字，人少咗，但開支不跌反升，合唔合理呢? 睇返 HPH Trust 2011 年嘅年報：
